Department of Accounting, Master of Accounting Program (“MAcc”)

Department of Accounting, Master of Accountancy Program (“MAcc”)

Providing students with advanced accounting knowledge of versatility and broad-based practical applicability to maximize occupational options is the overriding learning outcome of this nine-month program. To ensure maximum advancement of this academic agenda, MAcc’s curriculum receives an annual comprehensive review by accounting experts who provide critical commentary and recommend any indicated adjustments.

Eller College’s Accounting Department designed its MAcc degree with a view toward providing thorough academic preparation for professional accounting and consultancy roles. Toward that end, it features advanced studies and practical skills development of managerial, financial, and tax accounting expertise. Besides fulfilling all academic prerequisites for CPA licensure, the 30-credit MAcc degree program offers students a trio of sub-specialty “tracks” that include Entrepreneurship, Audit, and Tax.

Department of Accounting, Master of Science Accounting Program (“MSA”)

MSA has comparable emphases as that of its above-described MAcc analogue. “Flexibility” and “foreign student accommodation” are the stated distinguishing catchphrases between the two. The MSA curriculum has a general educational inclination toward preparing students for professional accounting and consultancy roles through imparting sophisticated knowledge bases and skills in managerial and/or financial accounting. Moreover, it aims to assist students further by satisfying all academic requirements for subsequent CPA licensure.

The 30-credit MS curriculum includes completion of a comprehensive MSA exam as a condition of degree conferral. Students may complete up to 12 credits of general -accounting or advisor-approved non-accounting coursework to satisfy the 30-credit aggregate required for program completion. The 18-credit balance consists of mandatory “core” accounting courses.

Although completion of 18 core credits is mandatory, students may choose from a “menu” of classes with varying subject matter, all of which count toward satisfying the core requirement. The sole exception to this rule is International Communications. All students must successfully complete that course irrespective of individual selections for other non-core categories.
